SUMMARY:Book Club Discussion: The Red Tent (full) - SF
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE: Please visit Bay Area Vegetarians event calendar for more information or updates on this and other vegetarian and animal rights events.=0D=0A=0D=0Ahttp://www.bayareaveg.org/events.php#1475 =0D=0A=0D=0AHost: Lisa=0D=0A=0D=0ANotes:=0D=0A=0D=0ABook Club Discussion: The Red Tent by Anita Diamant (a novel)=0D=0A=0D=0A2:30 PM at Café Gratitude on 9th Avenue in San Francisco=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0AWe are a semi-regular group of 8 to 10 people who meet 8 times a year to discuss novels and other general (not veg*n/ar) books over a vegan meal or snack. It's a unique opportunity for those of us who love to read and discuss books and want to eat vegan food. Most book clubs have shared food but I'd never found one with vegan food, let alone 100% vegan food.=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0AWe started meeting in January 2006 and met 8 times in 2006 and plan to do the same in 2007.=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0AWe're currently a group of 10 (6 continuing from 2006 and 4 new members) with 3 people on the waiting list. All current members have a say in selecting books and meeting places usually during meetings and sometimes via our email list. We're an informal but relatively stable group who have enjoyed one another's company.=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0AWe are limiting our membership to only 10 so that we everyone can participate in and enjoy our discussions, and so that we can find vegan and vegetarian restaurants in which to meet that have seating that permit all of us to join in a single discussion. We all want to hear what everyone has to say.=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0AWe do welcome RSVPs from people wishing to become members, either regularly or for a particular book discussion. I will always reply to you, and if there's room, we're very happy to have you if you love to read and would enjoy a vegan meal or snack with our group. You do not need to be a vegan or vegetarian although that has been the case of our members thus far.=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0AMost of our meetings have been in San Francisco. Currently, 8 members live in San Francisco and 2 live in Santa Cruz.=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0AOur only "rules" are that books be available in paperback along with only vegan food.=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0AI urge you to form your own BAVeg Book Club Discussion group if we can't accommodate you due to location of our meetings or lack of open spaces. If you think you'd enjoy talking about good books over vegan food. I, and our other members also, would be happy to help you start your own group by sharing our experiences of this last year.=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0AFor our 2007 schedule and 2006 reading list, other book club information, and to share your input, please visit our book club section at the Bay Area Vegetarians web site:=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0Ahttp://www.bayareaveg.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=49=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0AI've really enjoyed meeting with and getting to know our continuing members and we all look forward to meeting our new members.=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0ATake care. Lisa =0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0ANote: There is a separate reading & discussion of veg/AR books happening as part of the Compassionate Living program.
