There is also a separate book club, "Vegan Book Club", that discusses fiction books. =0D=0A=0D=0AThis is our last meeting of the year, so in addition to our book discussion, it will also include a Vegan Food Party (everyone will bring a vegan dish to share). And since we're a book club, we'll also bring the cookbooks. So it will be an edible review of the cookbooks and a verbal review of our selected book, Sexual Politics of Meat.=0D=0A=0D=0AGuests Usually our discussions are only available to individuals who have read the book. But for this meeting, to introduce the book club to potential members or maybe folks who are just interested in this topic, you are welcome to join us to listen to the discussion and bring your favorite vegan dish to share at our Vegan Food Party.=0D=0A=0D=0AThe Book - Sexual Politics of Meat by Carol Adams. From the author's website:=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0AThe Sexual Politics of Meat: A Feminist-Vegetarian Critical Theory explores a relationship between patriarchal values and meat eating by interweaving the insights of feminism, vegetarianism, animal defense, and literary theory. A pioneering book, it is now available Tenth Anniversary Edition. When it first appeared in 1990, Library Journal called The Sexual Politics of Meat "an important and provocative work" and predicted it would "inspire and enrage readers across the political spectrum." True to Library Journal's prediction, the book was hailed by CHOICE as a "’bible' for feminist and progressive animal rights activists" and equally reviled by conservative commentators, including Rush Limbaugh, John Leo, and Cal Thomas as an example of political correctness taken to excess.=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0AThe appearance of The Sexual Politics of Meat triggered dramatic international media coverage of the book. Polity Press in the United Kingdom immediately issued a British Edition. Full page articles appeared in Australian and Dutch newspapers; reviews appeared in Italy and Norway as well as in Great Britain and the United States. The Kirkus Review concluded that it was "an intelligent polemic...Adams's observations are telling, most are seductively sprung...the argument is both thoughtful and thought-provoking." Publisher's Weekly observed that "Carol J. Adams's original, provocative book makes a major contribution to the debate on animal rights."=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0ARead More=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0AVegan Food Party info=0D=0A=0D=0Ao What is Vegan: Entirely plant-based foods, no animal or animal-based ingredients, including eggs, dairy, whey, honey, casein, etc.=0D=0A=0D=0Ao What to Bring: Vegan Food for 6-8 people, ingredient list, place setting - click HERE for full info. =0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0ALocation: SF - private residence on King Street (between 2nd and 3rd Street) =0D=0A=0D=0ATime: 1 pm=0D=0A=0D=0ARSVP: All RSVPs will be confirmed with address.=0D=0A=0D=0ABook club members - self-RSVP in our book club database.
