SUMMARY:Cesar Chavez Parade Outreach + Lunch - San Francisco
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE: Please visit Bay Area Vegetarians event calendar for more information or updates on this and other vegetarian and animal rights events.=0D=0A=0D=0Ahttp://www.bayareaveg.org/events.php#2350 =0D=0A=0D=0AHost: Rachel=0D=0A=0D=0ANotes:=0D=0A=0D=0ADid you know that Cesar Chavez was a vegetarian? =0D=0A=0D=0ACesar Chavez believed that adopting a vegetarian diet was important for justice, peace, and non-violence, and he encouraged those around him to follow his example. SO ... let's follow in his footsteps, promoting vegetarianism as we walk in the Cesar Chavez Parade this year! =0D=0A=0D=0AWhat better way to honor the memory of Cesar Chavez than to promote awareness of the values (peaceful protest, vegetarianism) that he himself held so dear. Especially given that the media and our schools often overlook Cesar Chavez' vegetarianism when they re-tell the story of his life. =0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0AWhen and Where: Meet at 10:30 a.m., near 18th and Dolores, on the southwest corner of the OUTSIDE of the tennis courts. This is so we can get our group organized for the march. =0D=0A=0D=0AThe official gathering time / lining up for the parade route is 11:00 a.m. The parade is scheduled to depart Dolores Park at noon. and arrive at 24th St Mission BART at 1 pm=0D=0A=0D=0AWe can take some time to enjoy the community event / street fair on 24th between Treat and Bryant. Treat Street is 5 short blocks (or 2.5 long blocks) away from the 24th St BART station (about 5 minutes walk). And then we'll share a vegan lunch at a nearby restaurant.=0D=0A=0D=0A>strong>What to Bring:=0D=0A=0D=0A - Make and bring your own signs with your favorite quotes about vegetarianism. We also need banners that say "Cesar Chavez was a Vegetarian" and/or similar messages. =0D=0A=0D=0A- It would be great to dress up as farm workers or farm animals, or vegetables/fruits (optional). =0D=0A=0D=0A-We'll have a battery-operated speaker system, so you can bring an MP3 player with your favorite (veggie-related!?!) music. =0D=0A=0D=0A-We'll have a cart with Vegan Outreach flyers to hand out to people gathered along the parade route. =0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0AEveryone is welcome, both veg & non-veg, as long as each person cares about spreading the word about the importance of Cesar Chavez' legacy as a vegetarian and a peaceful protester. =0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0AA few important notes: =0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0A1. In addition to bringing a costume (optional) and a pro-veg sign, wear comfortable shoes and carry some water and snacks for yourself.=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0A2. Feel free to bring vegan treats (clementines, candy, cookies) to share along the parade route. =0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0A3. When you RSVP in the evite, please indicate the sign/banner and/or costumes you plan to bring.=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0A4.
