Ultimate Guide Reviews
Vegan Picnic I had a chance to try a variety of items. The Sausage Breakfast Sandwich was good, but a bit too much ketchup. The Steak Tip Sandwich was perfect. The challah buns that the sandwiches are served on are so light, airy and delicious. The plain yeast raised doughnut was perfect. I haven't had one in over 10 years. It was a great surprise. The chocolate croissant was great, the plain croissant was a bit sweet for my taste. I prefer a more savory plain croissant. Limited seating, but it's a a nice area for window shopping. 4.5 stars 2018-03-15
Next Level Burger I love this place, and have been here waaay to many times. The food is consistently delicious. My recent favorites are the Garden Style Grilled Chz and the Chili Chz Fries. My husband goes for the All American or the Classic burgers. I find that the shakes don't usually have enough flavoring added, but my husband loves them. 5 stars 2018-03-15
New Tree Pretty basic vegan lunch offerings. 2 or 3 vegan sandwiches and some salads. The standout is their organic, fair-trade chocolate. They have vegan hot chocolate (made with almond milk), 3 types of vegan cookies, and they recently added a vegan chocolate mousse. Limited seating. 3.5 stars 2015-04-17
Kaffa Ethiopian Cuisine Nice to have an all vegan Ethiopian place to dine. It is small and homey with friendly service. Limited seating. The food was delicious. Best injera I've ever had. The sambusa was sooo good. 4.5 stars 2015-04-17
Easy Creole This is a casual place, with a hipster-y vibe. Order at the register and they will bring your food to your table. Quite a few vegan options, and some were superhot, which should be expected from Creole food. I didn't find the food to be spectacular, nor bad. It was okay. My dining partner loved the spiciness. Service was great, and insisted we try at least 3 samples of the dishes. 3.5 stars 2015-03-16
Central Vegetarian Cuisine Friendly, family run restaurant. Lots of seating. The Vietnamese Crepe is a must have. I despise eggplant, but I tried Central's and it was unbelievably delicious. Their pho is okay. Generous portions. Reasonable prices. 4.5 stars 2013-01-16
Veggie Today Bright, spacious, clean restaurant. Friendly-service (if a little frazzled at times) The food was really your standard Ching Hai fare. Not spectacular, not bad. I really liked their Salt and Pepper Tofu (despite its boring name). Their Curried Vermicelli soup was really spicy, but good. Foo young was delicious, as most deep fried things tend to be... 4 stars 2013-01-16
Timeless Coffee I had the vegan brunch last Sunday for $11. They only have one brunch item each week. This time "Eggs" Benedict with a side of homefries. It was absolutely delicious. The coffee was great. They have a coconut based creamer. It get's quite crowded though. Tough to secure a table. The baked goods looked great, but I was so full from brunch I didn't have a chance to sample them. 5 stars 2013-01-16
Golden Era A lot of the food seems thrown together without care (to me). The one exception is the Vietnamese crepe. Food is okay, but overpriced. There are too many other veg options to put up with the service (or lack thereof) at Golden Era. 2 stars 2010-05-18
MaggieMudd I love this place. Vegan waffle bowls, sprinkles, whipped "cream", marshmallow topping ?! The strawberry and mint chocolate ice cream leaves something to be desired. Any chocolate flavor is awesome, esp. the Dubliner. Beware of the size of their sundaes, they are huuuuge! 4.5 stars 2010-05-17
Ike's Re-review -- I didn't realize most of Ike's vegan sandwiches are listed online only. The meatless Mike is good. The Tom Brady was decadent and delicious. Strongly suggest calling in your order as the line is ridiculous. Dress for the weather for the long wait in line. 4 stars 2010-05-17
Loving Hut This place is great. Friendly service. Yvonne is great. I love how bright and cheerful the decor is. The menu items don't have any animal names. The waitress said that they want to get away from people thinking of animals as food :) My fav dishes: rice claypot, orange sesame bites, spicy bun soup, fried bananas for dessert. Took a hardcore carnivore here and she loved it. 5 stars 2010-05-17
Nature\'s Express I love this place. Very simple, satisfying food. I get a craving for their mac and cheese. The Tunaless melt is good too. It's a chopped chick pea salad really. I had their soup twice. Tom yum and chicken-free noodle, both great. The lack of seating is a pain and it takes them a bit of time to prep the food. 4.5 stars 2010-05-17
Thai Idea Vegetarian Everything is plated really well and with care. I had the "Volcano" tofu. It wasn't very spicy despite its name. Had 2 tasty curries - Massuman and Pumpkin -the base sauce was very similar for both though. Had a really good rice noodle dish but can't remember the name. It was a good size for sharing. Reasonable price, nice decor. 4 stars 2010-05-17
Gracias Madre Nice interior. Good service. $5 cocktails! Tried the Enchiladas con Mole, which was rather spicy, but really good. The three flavors of tacos were delicious too. Will definitely pay another visit. 4.5 stars 2010-01-18
Herbivore Tried the new "beef" dishes. Stroganoff and cheese steak sandwich, which were quite good IMHO. However, the service here just seems to have taken a nose dive. After a bad experience at the Berkeley location and watching our food sit on the counter for 10 minutes while the waitress chatted up her friends, I don't think Herbivore needs my business any more. 2.5 stars 2009-09-06
Saturn Cafe I like the whole 50s diner concept. Mostly vegetarian with a number of vegan choices. Had garlic fries and a chocolate (vegan) milkshake. The milkshakes were kind of pricey at $6 a piece, especially considering the kind of shake you could get a Maggie Mudds. 3 stars 2009-09-06
Malabar Cafe Had lunch here. Great decor/ambience. Awesome food, seasoned to perfection. Between my husband and I, we had the spicy potatoes, brocolli and tofu, gado gado, eggplant with soy chunks, columbo something. Everything was excellent. Huge portions for the price ($7.50 for 4 items + white or brown rice) 4.5 stars 2009-09-06
Herbivore I don't know what is with the whole Herbivore chain, but the service is worse than ever. And the food at this particular location tastes more bland than the other locations. After particulary bad service here and attempting to email the management and having it bounce I won't be returning. 1.5 stars 2009-09-06
Ananda Fuara Had the butternut squash ravioli (vegan special) - great, except it was swimming in oil. Husband had the veggie burger which was excellent, the pasta salad side was good too. Plate of steamed veggies, which were overcooked to the point of mushiness. Great chocolate cake. 3 stars 2009-01-03
Lucky Creation Hole in the wall. The staff varies between being indifferent, loud and rude. I am a fan of their buns/dim sum stuff though 3.5 stars 2008-11-19
The Usual Suspects Cafe Had an early supper here. The tofu wrap was very filling and quite spicy! My husband had the pizza and said it was good. The hummus was really good! 3 stars 2008-07-03
Fellini Great vegan brunch and dinner selections, including pasta and pizza. Two of my favorites are Linguini alla Diavola and the Fettuccine Alfredo. They have good drink specials during the week, and it's a great place to convert your non-veg friends ;) 5 stars 2008-06-19
