Gracias Madre Great concept and great atmosphere. The enchiladas are really delicious, and they use fresh, organic ingredients. Everything tastes home made right then. Our favorites were the agua fresca, the enchilada plate and the homemade ice cream. My only complaint is the spiciness level isn't customizable. The waiter simply told us, "that's going to be spicy." Overall very good food and ambiance. 4 stars 2010-01-03
Amici's East Coast Pizzeria The new vegan cheese pizza is amazing! They use Daiya, which is a new vegan cheese which tastes amazing and melts just like regular cheese on their pizzas. I highly recommend it. All of the Amici's locations carry the vegan pizza option now. 5 stars 2009-10-17
Loving Hut This is a great addition to downtown Palo Alto! I'd call this a cafe. It's a casual atmosphere with a small but mighty menu consisting mostly of sandwiches, soups and salads. They also have daily specials to supplement the regular menu. Everything is vegan. We loved the tempeh BLT and the fake tuna sandwich on special. The staff are very friendly and helpful. A great place! 4.5 stars 2009-02-03
The Pizza Place on Noriega The Timmy's Vegan Pie is really delicious. They use good quality ingredients. Their crust is very nice, thin but still with some substance to it. You could also make your own vegan pie with their vegan pesto or red sauce. They do not offer soy cheese, but the pesto is absolutely delicious and I didn't miss it. 4.5 stars 2009-02-01
Millennium The food here is stellar and so amazing. The flavor combinations Chef Tucker creates are consistently delicious, original, and complex. Their menu is seasonal, and the quality of ingredients is impeccable. The food and experience is well worth the cost. There is no other like it, and vegans are fortunate to have this option. $5 burritos are great, but I want something nice once in a while. 5 stars 2009-01-04
Garden Fresh The scallion pancakes appetizer is my favorite item. The drumsticks appetizer are also quite good. As for the entrees, they use a lot of mock meat, and I'm not a big fan of their fake chicken or beef. I've never had a bad entree here, but I've also never been wowed by anything. The staff is very nice and this is the best vegan option in Mountain View. The prices are very reasonable. 3.5 stars 2009-01-04
Udupi Palace The only thing I order are the dosas - especially the Masala Dosa or the Special Rava Masala Dosa. They are amazingly delicious and vegan. The prices are very reasonable. Don't expect much in the way of ambiance or service, though. This is a utilitarian experience, but if you just want great food, this is a safe bet. 4.5 stars 2009-01-04
Uncle Chen They have a separate vegetarian menu - you can view it online for pickup/delivery or ask for it in person. They deliver in San Mateo and Belmont. Their tofu dishes are very good, as well as their mock meats. The veggie wonton soup is fantastic. I also like the sweet and sour pork and ham fried rice. The service has been hit or miss, but overall, this is a good bet if you're in the area. 4 stars 2009-01-04
Pancho Villa Taqueria Excellent value for the money. The San Mateo location is just as good as The Mission. I generally stick to the rice and beans burrito, but they also have grilled tofu available for your burrito or tacos. The rice and beans are all lard-free and they know what vegan means. The horchata is dairy-free. It tends to get crowded, but the line moves quickly. 4 stars 2009-01-04
The Plant Cafe Organic This place seems to have lost its luster. The food and service has definitely declined in quality and the prices are not cheap. They seemed to have cut back on some items, such as the hummus plate which used to have three different types of hummus with a delicious salad, which now only has two types of hummus with a lackluster salad. The vegan desserts are amazing, so I would recommend those. 3 stars 2009-01-04
Amarin Thai Cuisine I love Thai food, but it's so hard to know what's in it. Here they have a separate vegetarian menu has a lot of options, most of which are vegan. They don't try to sneak in fish sauce. The flavors here are great. I love their curries. I haven't tried their mock meats, but everything I've had with tofu has been divine. This is definitely the best bet for vegans in downtown Mountain View. 4.5 stars 2009-01-04
Fragrance Land I will not return. Items I ordered that were labeled as egg and dairy free were not. The walnut shrimp was listed as no eggs, but it arrived coated in mayonnaise. When I asked them to show me the jar, it was regular mayo, not vegan. One of their curries says no dairy, but when I asked, she said "only a little bit of dairy." I don't mind if some items aren't vegan, but they lie on the menu. 1 stars 2009-01-04
Shiok Singapore Kitchen The roti prata appetizer is my favorite dish here. It is a warm, yummy bread that comes with a rich, red coconut curry sauce for dipping. The Sayor Lodeh entree is vegan and delicious - a nice coconut based yellow curry dish. I also like the Nasi Goreng - specify vegetarian and no egg if vegan. They have a few other dishes that can be made vegetarian upon request (marked on menu). 4 stars 2009-01-04
Cafe Colucci Cafe Colucci is my favorite Ethiopian restaurant in the bay area. Their veggie combo is amazing. It contains items you would expect, such as lentils in bebere sauce, cabbage and carrots and collard greens. It also contains two cold dips (green lentil and chickpea) that are so delicious and I've never seen anywhere else. The service is good here, but they can get busy. 5 stars 2009-01-04
Mingalaba Some of the delicious dishes are vegetarian samusa soup, tea leaf salad (request vegetarian), curry vegetables, and Burmese style yellow bean fried rice (request no egg if vegan). The service is good, and the ambiance is nice. It is right in the busy downtown area and can get crowded. 4 stars 2009-01-04
