The Breakroom Cafe Have ordered vegan sloppy joe and meatball sandwiches from them several times and have never been disappointed. They also carry double-layer Black China German chocolate and peanut butter chocolate cakes and several BC cupcakes, bagels, delicious corn bread, and other snacks. Owner used to waitress at New World Vegetarian, where she was stellar. Breakroom is equally stellar - 5 stars! Check it out 5 stars 2008-04-27
All about Herbs @ Paris Cafe Lone chef prepares incredibly fresh, delicious meals using only vegan ingredients. Chef shops at local Fmkts & stores by foot and bus. Small kitchen, so if you have a large party (e.g., 6 or more), call ahead to make a reservation so she can buy enough food for your group. Fried brown rice medly, spring rolls, and soups were all fantastic. Entrees are about $10. Highly recommended. 5 stars 2007-12-15
Herbivore Herbivore took a really good thing from the SF locations and made it even better in Berkeley by having a superior decor that includes comfortable bench seating and a much quieter atmosphere (less loud music, which we old fogies appreciate). Generally faster service and the same good food from the SF location make for a winning combination. Parking is not the best; suggest taking bus or BART. 5 stars 2007-12-11
Dharma's Natural Foods Offers wide American + international food selection (much organic). Home fried & mashed potatoes also very good. Soy ice cream shakes subpar. They carry Black China double chocolate cake. Excellent "no cell phone zone" policy. Food must be ordered 15 minutes before closing time. Chairs were being stacked as we finished out meal, so lingering long near closing is frowned upon. Highly recommended! 4.5 stars 2007-07-08
Open Sesame Specialty Foods Local store has amazing amount of natural foods for its relatively small footprint. Proprietor is friendly; very willing to order specialty foods. Never crowded; always a pleasant shopping experience. Slightly pricier on average than corproate chains like Whole Foods, but a much more local, friendly shopping experience. Highly recommended. 4.5 stars 2007-05-12
New World Vegan Best veg restaurant in the Bay Area. Superb b-b-q chicken; bird's nest; broccoli shiitake and, of course, Black China cakes. Very friendly service; beautiful floors and tables. 3 blocks from BART! 5 stars 2005-12-10
Harvest and Rowe Fresh organic ingredients and custom salads are pros. Food taste is good as was selection of vegan soups). Negatives: Prices a bit higher than expected; soups were a bit runny. 4 stars 2005-06-23
Memo's Cocina Mexican Outstanding cuisine. Most menu items can be made vegan. Faux Chicken Pipian esp. outstanding. Call ahead to request vegan desserts. Choc cake & caramel banana desserts excellent. Family owned & run. 5 stars 2005-02-04
