Ultimate Guide Reviews
The Veggie Grill One of my favorite restaurants. I have liked everything I have tried, which is about half of the menu, with the exception of one of the daily soups. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The only draw-back is the parking. Best to park across the street and walk in to Santana Row or go up to the 4th-6th levels at the Winchester parking garage. You likely won't find a spot in the Olin St. garage. 5 stars 2012-12-30
Di Lac Pretty disappointed. I have always been told that this is place is vegan when I've asked, for several years. I got this wierd feeling that I should ask again when I went in the other day and was told not everything is vegan, including items I'd been told numerous times were vegan. Talked to the owner and although she said sorry, I didn't feel she was really too apologetic. 0.5 stars 2010-08-16
Loving Hut This has become my new favorite place. Love the Eggplant Tofu, Teriyaki Kabobs and Satay Kabobs. There are actually more items than shown on their website and they now have brown rice. They have many more items than the LH in Palo Alto, completely different menus. Located between Old Navy and Borders (not in food court.) The place is always busy, which is so nice to see. Staff consistently nice. 5 stars 2010-02-21
Garden Fresh I LOVE this place. Definitely one of the best veg places in the Bay Area. Vegetarian Ham is my favorite. Brought my omni parents there when they were in town and they still ask me about it almost 2 yrs later. In other words, even omni's love this place. Service has always been friendly. They now have Maggie Mudd's vegan Peanut Butter Palooka ice cream! 5 stars 2006-10-07
Tofoo Com Chay I've wanted to really love this place since so many people seem to. But, it's always just been between average and good. Maybe I've gone on bad days? I was disappointed that one worker told me the drumsticks were vegan, then when I was paying the other worker said they were NOT vegan (they contain dairy.) 3.5 stars 2006-10-07
New World Vegan Love this place. Ate with a big group and we split about 10 dishes and I loved all of them but 1. Especially liked the Chicken Cacciatore. Very nice decor and parking wasn't too bad. 5 stars 2006-10-07
MaggieMudd I LOVE their vegan ice cream, especially the Peanut Butter Palooka. I've been known to drive from San Jose to SF just for Maggie Mudd. Try the banana split with PB Palooka and strawberry syrup (instead of chocolate). Reminds me of a PB&J sandwich :) 5 stars 2006-10-07
Fellini I love this place. Normally I wouldn't give a place that serves meat 5 stars, but they are VERY accomodating to vegans. I come up from SJ as often as I can just for the vegan pizza and manicotti. 5 stars 2006-06-04
Saturn Cafe Now all vegetarian! No more tuna-now have Tuno. Cute eccentric place. The best vegan peanut butter shake ever. Great burger and fries. If you have a headache, be warned, music is very loud. Open late. 4.5 stars 2006-04-22
Mariachi's Hopefully, I was told wrong. I had read on the UG that there were vegan options, but asked the server what was vegan and he said only the rice and beans, that's all, none of the tortillas. So, I left. 0.5 stars 2006-03-06
The Happy Bamboo Food is very tasty. Great use of spices. Very vegan-friendly-almost whole menu. Vegan desserts. It's usually empty/near empty when I go, which shocks me, given how good it is. The owner is very sweet. 5 stars 2006-01-06
Animal Place Anyone who visits will think twice before eating animals. I LOVE volunteering there. I have to leave at 7:30 AM to go the 88 mi. and I am NOT a morning person. But it's so worth it once I'm there :) 5 stars 2006-01-06
Pizza Orgasmica The cheeseless pizza is incredible. I thought I'd miss the vegan cheese, but it was actually better than some vegan cheese pizzas I've had. The sauce and crust were so yummy. You won't miss the cheese 5 stars 2005-11-07
Love N Haight They have the most amazing vegan sandwiches made with textured soy protein. Get the Veggie Chicken Steak, add avocadoe, take it home and add some Veganaise and it is the most incredible sandwich ever! 5 stars 2005-06-16
Good Karma I love this place. The food is great and it is so cheap. The Pineapple "Tuna" is my favorite (and I never even liked tuna before I was veg). Also try the Fried "Chicken" The owner is very sweet. 5 stars 2005-06-16
BayLeaf Cafe I'm new to the Bay Area and BayLeaf has become my favorite veggie place so far. I've only tried a few things, but I love the artichoke tofu wrap and the creamy avocado. 5 stars 2005-01-29
Otsu I really like this store, though some things are a bit pricey. I bought some shoes from Daya, which are so comfy, they've become my favorite shoes. The owners were very helpful. 4 stars 2005-01-29
