Ultimate Guide Reviews
Gather My current favorite restaurant. Only a few vegan dishes, but they are all terrific. Kale Caesar (the kale is cooked) is the best vegan version of a Caesar Salad I have tried. Gather elevates the lowly mushroom sandwich to an amazing level (a must!). They also always offer a delicious vegan pizza. This kitchen really knows what they are doing! 5 stars 2011-06-02
Moya Ethiopian Restaurant & Coffeehouse Excellent low-fat Ethiopian food. Staff extra friendly/helpful. The inguday tibs (mushrooms) is very flavorful. They have regular injera (made from a blend of flours including teff), and also a traditional injera made only from teff which is gluten-free. Most dishes are mild to moderately spiced, and some can be adjusted for spiciness. They will add menu items including lentil sambussa later. 5 stars 2010-07-14
Nature\'s Express Great food, helpful staff. Tempeh rueben is excellent - so are the sweet potato fries & wraps. Marked down 1/2 point for no bathroom & limited seating. Note their posted hours - they open at 10:30 am 7 days a week. Took my non-veg daughter here, and she loved it, esp. the choc. chip cookies. The concept here is tasty, healthy, fast food. They succeed, except perhaps for the "fast" part. 4.5 stars 2010-06-01
Gracias Madre Mexican food is the perfect theme for a vegan restaurant! 3 visits - terrific sides: b'nut squash, 'shrooms, pickled veggies, refried blk beans, nacho "cheese" (made w. cashew cream) potatoes. The table salsas (chipotle & tomatillo) are exemplary. Dishes are either very spicy or quite bland - ask. Service is extra friendly & helpful. Clean, big open kitchen, nice dining area. Vegan desserts! 5 stars 2009-12-31
Fragrance Land Ingredients used (such as faux meat) a cut above other Chinese veggie places. Very nice people & really good food. Unlike many rests. they use onions and garlic (and eggs & dairy) but are very accomodating to dietary needs. Business is slow - it's a tough area for this style of rest. - check them out - they need your support. 5 stars 2007-06-07
Enjoy Vegetarian NO dairy in curry(I checked w. owner) rice noodles & udon are vegan-other noodles and wrappers have egg-say they'll note nonvegan items on menu soon. Easily the best Chinese vegetarian food in town. 5 stars 2006-04-04
Hulu House My favorite veg food in SF (besides Millenium). Assertive Singapore-style presented with obvious pride. Buddhist vegetarian (no onions/garlic). Tom yum and laksa soups are very spicy and wonderful! 5 stars 2005-05-01
